Dr. Albert Wallace Deckel, PhD, American Board of Professional Neuropsychology

Welcome to the website of Dr. Albert Wallace Deckel.
Dr. Deckel is a Board Certified senior Psychologist and Neuropsychologist with over 25 years of experience. Now in private practice, Dr. Deckel is a retired Professor of Psychiatry/ Neuroscience from the University of Connecticut Medical School and the former director of the Psychological/ Neuropsychological Testing Services at the University of Connecticut Health Center and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of N.J.
Dr. Deckel has been involved in the diagnosis and care of thousands of individuals with neuropsychological problems. During his extensive career he has had experience with patients of all age groups.
In addition to helping people with problems such as depression and anxiety, Dr. Deckel also has 25+ years experience in the care of individuals with neuropsychological disease, including dementia, head injury, learning disabilities and depression/anxiety. He is expert in the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other learning related disabilities and is a former consultant at the Children's Specialized Hospital in New Jersey. He worked extensively for many years with individuals with Brain Trauma, first at the Brain Trauma Unit at Kessler Institute then at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He developed the Huntington's Disease Clinic at the University of Connecticut Medical School and directed the Neuropsychology service at UCONN Med and the Univ. of Medicine and Dentistry in N.J.
Finally, Dr. Deckel spent much of his career training the current generation of doctors in their understanding of the brain and brain functions. He has taught and precepted medical students, psychology trainees, psychiatric and geriatric "doctors in training", and many others and won awards from Psychiatrists in Training for his teaching of clinical neuroscience to them. He has also extensively researched into the causes and treatments of multiple neuropsychological illnesses and published many scientific papers on these topics (see resume in text file below).
